In its effort to help fight hunger, the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley held it’s 11th Annual Empty Bowls event.
Hundreds of people headed out to the Boggus Ford Events Center to munch on all kinds of food, and at the same time help raise money to feed those in need.
Attendees were able to enjoy live music and participate in auctions, where all the money would be donated. The goal for this year’s Empty Bowl Event was to raise $100,000.
Omar Rodriguez, Communications Manager says, “We are feeding around 42-thousand people a week, out of three counties right now. About 1 in 5 do have to figure out if they’re going to pay their bills, or put quality food on the table, and a lot of times they pay those bills. So hunger is a big problem here in the valley.”
