The Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector continues being the busiest in the country.

News Center 23’s Joanna Guzman went on a ride along with the agents. Within one hour of the ride along agents seized over 200 pounds of marijuana abandoned in La Joya.

A few moments later, 29 family units were apprehended near the river along with another five separate groups attempting to evade apprehension. A Border Patrol agent tells Joanna it is not easy.

Agent Robert Rodriguez, U.S. Border Patrol says, “Because of the proximity of the river sometimes they feel like they can assault the agent and get away from them. Agents have been punched, kicked, sometimes the struggle during the attempted apprehension. It can become a very dangerous situation, because most of the times the agents are outnumbered.”

Tomorrow KVEO will have more on the ride along with border patrol as they continue tracking the arrival of  undocumented immigrants.
