Fire at the Brownsville Bus Depot Over the Weekend

Local News

The Brownsville Bus Station is back open and running operations smoothly after it caught fire over the weekend.

It was Saturday night at the 700 block of International Boulevard when the fire started at the dome of the building. Videos quickly surfaced on social media showing the rapidly growing flames. According to Fire Chief Carlos Elizondo, fire crews were able to put out the fire within 25 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Norma Zamora with Brownsville Metro said, “At noon yesterday we opened Adams Street and everything started operating normally. Today basically we’re going back and just assessing the problem, assessing the issues and things that we need to get resolved and address but for the most part we’re fully operational and all our services are back to normal.”

According to the fire chief, no foul play is suspected. Though the cause of the fire has not been confirmed at this time, Director of Brownsville Metro Norma Zamora, says they do suspect the issue may have been electrical.
