Fifth person arrested in connection with Edinburg voter fraud investigation

A fifth person has been arrested in connection with an Edinburg voter fraud investigation, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Friday afternoon.

Texas Rangers arrested Francisco Tamez Jr., 33, on two counts of illegal voting, both second-degree felonies, according to Hidalgo County jail records. 

Jose Antonio Vela II, 27, of Edinburg, Veronica Vela Saenz, 41, and Maria Aleman, 35, of Edinburg have also been arrested in connection with the case. 

The arrests stems from an investigation by the Texas Rangers, the Attorney General’s Office and the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.
