Fiesta de La Flor

It’s been 20 years since the movie “Selena” was released. That movie helped younger generations learn about Selena Quintanilla Perez’s music and cultural legacy.
Fiesta de La Flor is the festival that celebrates Selena’s life and music. It was held Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Corpus Christi. Among the crowd was 15-year-old Ryan Velasquez from Harlingen.

He had with him, detailed sketches of the ‘Queen of Tejano’, that he drew. Each of them took about three hours to complete. But he said, it’s all for the woman who inspires him.
“She’s an inspiration to me, like I said, because she proves that Latinos can actually be successful in this industry.”
New to the festival this year was a Selena wax figure. Thousands of people waited about six hours just to take their picture with the figure. Also at the festival was Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla. She said she would like to see the festival grow by seeing different genres of music being performed.
