FedEx Freight celebrated the opening of their new facility in Mercedes with a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday.

Mercedes Interim City Manager Sergio Zavala told CBS 4 about the new center back in September 2018.

City officials were also very excited about the economic impact the facility will have on the community.

The facility, which has approximately 150 team members, will allow for better service for their customers.

“FedEx Freight is committed to bringing the latest advancements in the LTL industry to our customers, and the new service center in Mercedes, Texas, is no exception,” Lance Moll, senior vice president of Operations at FedEx Freight, said in a press release. “The Rio Grande Valley is a key location in our network when it comes to serving the needs of our customers, and we look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with those customers and the communities in the area.”

The 115-door service center is more than 84,000 square feet and sits on 34 acres of land.
