Former Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner Arturo Cuellar Jr, 65, was arrested this morning in the city of McAllen.
Cuellar, Jr., 65, was taken into custody by agents with the FBI and IRS on a criminal investigation.
Also arrested was Daniel Garcia, 40, an attorney based in Rio Grande City and a trustee for the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District.
Charges will be provided today by the United States Attorney’s office and the Department of Justice.
He is scheduled for an Initial appearance Monday in federal court.
Ceullar’s attorney Carlos A. Garcia also confirmed his arrest.
The arrests come one week after Weslaco business man Ricardo Quintanilla was indicted for allegedly laundering money in order to bribe a Weslaco city commissioner in exchange for contracts for the construction of Weslaco’s water treatment plant.
