Father of Teen Killed by Stepfather Says Police Will Not Give Answers In Daughter’s Death

Local News

A McAllen father is fighting for answers in the fatal shooting of his 16-year-old daughter.

Mr. Garcia has spent the last 18 months trying to find out what really happened the night of his daughter’s untimely death.

It was January 2017 when Ashley Garcia’s stepfather shot and killed her and her mother, and wounding Ashley’s little sister. After the shootings, the stepfather took his own life.

Now more than a year and a half later, Ashley’s father says police are refusing to release any information about the murder.

“I need closure. I need answers about what happened there. I need to know what really happened. The procedure, the protocol the police have done or did, I need to know.” Said Mr. Garcia.

When we sat down with Ashley’s father he says he’s gone to city leaders several times to find out the latest on the investigation.

“The police chief and all the department told me, that the case is closed. If the case is closed, I need to know what happened.”

Garcia says he’s been denied a copy of Ashley’s autopsy report. He has received nothing more than a one sentence statement about the night of the shooting. He also questions whether shots fired by police may have struck his daughter. He recalls a conversation with McAllen City Manager Roy Rodriguez.

“I want to know if my daughter was shot by a police officer. He [Roy Rodriguez] just opened a folder, and closed it right back and he said no. ‘How do you know?’ Garcia asked. ‘Because I know.’ Said Rodriguez. Can I see? No, you cannot see this file. This is our file. We’re not going to give you anything. I don’t know what they’re hiding.” said Garcia.

KVEO reached out to the McAllen Police Department to try and get some answers. We have yet to hear anything. The victim’s father says he also hopes to keep this from happening to other families.
