Family arrested in connection to a shooting

Local News

DONNA, Texas – A family is arrested in Donna for allegedly participating in a shooting that left one hospitalized. This incident marking the city’s first reported shooting of the year.

Donna police tell Local 23 News the motive behind this shooting may have been a drug dispute. One person has been transported to a local hospital and five have been arrested.

Captain Rick Suarez, Donna Police Department, “They were possibly going to meet to buy vaping cartridges. We believe, according to the info that we are receiving, that the suspects tried to rip him off.”

Two shots were fired at approximately 9:00 a.m. on the 500 block of south 25th street. Police are not releasing where the 19-year-old man was injured, but did say the victim put up a fight before getting shot.

“The suspect, who we feel is the shooter, had some small lacerations on his face which indicated to us that there was a scuffle at the scene.”

That suspect and four others were arrested only a few blocks down from the crime scene, following a traffic stop after witnesses reported a red pick up truck had just left the scene.

“It was five individuals. The possible shooter, his friend, the friend’s sister, mom, and dad.”

Police also say the victim is expected to recover from the injuries sustained.

Authorities are investigating whether the victim was selling drugs at the time of the incident. If so, he could face charges.
