Fallen Sheriff’s Deputies Honored at Ceremony

Local News

Cities across the country continue to celebrate ‘National Police Week’. The valley is honoring those who put their lives on the line for our community.

Benny Bravo, nephew of fallen sheriff deputy said, “After his passing, my grandparents, they wanted their next grandson that was born to be named after him.”

Although he never met the man he was named after, Benny Bravo says it’s an honor to carry on the name of his late uncle.

“Growing up, it was always stories of how he loved his work and how he loved to hunt, and how he loved baseball. Baseball was his favorite sport.”

Bravo was just one of five Hidalgo County Sheriff Deputies killed in the line of duty. Joining many more in the state of Texas.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said, “It doesn’t matter what agency you work for. When an officer dies in the line of duty, we’re all family. And it hurts everyone that’s involved in law enforcement.”

National Police Week stretches far beyond recognizing officers who are no longer with us.
