Fake Active Shooter Call, Armed Robbery Lead to Large Weapons Stash

Local News

Suspects in a slew of crimes Thursday morning are set to be arraigned Friday.

Their names have yet to be released.

However Harlingen police did not hesitate to show the items seized from a suspect’s home including Kevlar vests, rifles, handguns and bullets

KVEO NEWS CENTER 23’s Derick Garcia has been following this investigation

The latest development comes after a search warrant for a suspect’s home was executed.

Two men and a woman are in custody.

Police are working to find out if the suspects have a criminal history.

It’s not illegal to own firearms or Kevlar, but if the suspect has prior convictions Harlingen police say possession of the items is a crime.

The three in custody are linked to an active shooter threat.

Around 9:30 am, the Harlingen police department responded to Harlingen high school south regarding a threat.

Both Harlingen high schools were placed on lockdown.

Classroom by classroom officers cleared the school.

“At no time were any of the students in danger it was not an immediate threat nobody was injured” said Sgt John Parrish with Harlingen police Dept

The threat was ultimately deemed a hoax used to lure police across town.

Where two men wearing ski masks and hoodies, armed with a hammer and handgun stormed the Amigo Cash Pawn shop of Loop 499.

“The one with the hammer smashed display cases and believe they stole some jewelry” said Sgt John Parrish with Harlingen Police Dept

In a dash, the suspects stole a customer’s truck

“Apparently they drove the stolen vehicle down the road less than a mile left abandoned at a local park” said sgt john Parrish with Harlingen Police Dept

Harlingen police say nearby investigators spotted the suspects swapping getaway cars and followed them.

“They were stopped. Detained and ultimately brought here. Pending charges of aggravated robbery… but it is not uncommon the tactic that they used and in this case it did not work out for them.” Explained Sgt John Parrish with Harlingen Police Dept.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned Friday.
