Endangered sea turtles rescued from illegal fishing activity

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The U.S. Coast Guard rescues endangered sea turtles caught in an illicit fishing operation near Brownsville.

Three Green Sea turtles were spotted about a quarter mile north of the mouth of the Rio Grande River. The endangered turtles were caught in 200 yards of illegal fishing activity also known as gill netting.

According to the Coast Guard, the turtles were released and the netting was removed before it killed additional marine life.
