Embezzling Ex-BISD Employee’s Sentencing Rescheduled

Local News

Sentencing did not happen as scheduled for a former BISD employee guilty of embezzling more than $330,000. Leticia Arreola will now be sentenced September 28th. This is a story we’ve continued to follow.

Arreola worked as an accounting clerk in the food and nutrition services division. Over time she was able to arrange for cash deposits. Arreola had been taking cash from concession sales and spending the money on vacations, entertainment and shopping sprees for at least 6 years. Back in June, Arreola pled guilty. That’s when we spoke with BISD. They say the investigation isn’t over.

Dr. Esperanza Zendejas says, “We don’t tolerate those kinds of things and again it’s a story that sometimes puts a black eye on a District that is doing so well but we will deal with that and any other employee in the future we’re not going to tolerate things like that.”

Arreola is facing up to 10 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
