Edinburg Police seizes THC candies

Candy laced with THC was seized by the Special Investigation Unit and SWAT team in Edinburg. 

During a press conference Monday morning, authorities with the Edinburg  police department said a search warrant was executed Friday October 18 at 3119 Stuart Road in Edinburg. 

Officials recovered over 2 kilos of edibles and over 1 lb of marijuana; including THC candies.

20 year-old Edwin Mercado was taken into custody and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, which is a first degree felony. Punishable from five to 99 years in jail. 

Mercado was also charged with possession of marijuana,  which is a state jail felony punishable from 180 days to two years.  

In addition to disclosing information regarding the narcotics seized, Edinburg police reminded registered sex offenders to comply with city ordinances. 

Police added registered sex offenders must remain inside their residence from 4:00 p.m. to midnight on Halloween night. 

They also must place a sign on the door that says “NO CANDY” and turn all exterior lights off. 

 Investigators and police will be actively making checks on these residences.
