Edinburg Partners with Hidalgo County to Fund Construction of New County Courthouse

Local News

In Hidalgo County, commissioners are moving forward with the development of a new county courthouse in the city of Edinburg.

Mayor Richard Garcia met with county commissioners in a special joint meeting where they unanimously approved an official partnership.

The $150 million project is expected to revitalize the city’s downtown area and spur economic development. Earlier this year the city of Edinburg committed to contribute up to $30 million towards the project.

Edinburg Mayor Richard Garcia said, “We started with this I think in 2013. And here it is, almost 2017 a few weeks away and we ironed out a lot of the wrinkles as far as the partnership between the city and the county. I think the delay has caused all of us. But you know, we had to get it right.”

There is no set date on when the county will break ground on its new courthouse.
