Investigators have arrested a man accused of murdering his common-law wife and her mother Tuesday near Edinburg.

At 6:38 p.m. Tuesday, a man called 911 and told the dispatcher that he’d shot his wife, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

As the man left the scene — near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 2812 Road and Sunflower Road — he called back, Guerra said. During the conversation with the dispatcher, the man went live on Facebook.

Neighbors also called 911 to report what’d happened.

Deputies responded to the scene and arrested the man. They found his common-law wife and her mother dead, Guerra said. Both women suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

Division Chief Joel Rivera said the women were found dead in a car.

“We do know that he shot his common-law wife in front of his children,” Guerra said. “So they’re pretty traumatized.”

Investigators haven’t released the man’s name or the name of the women who died.

Correction: The man ran away from the crime scene; he did not drive away. While the man did go live on Facebook, people did not call the Sheriff’s Office after seeing the Facebook video. Deputies found the women dead in a car, according to Sheriff’s Office Division Chief Joel Rivera; they were not found dead in a house.
