An Edinburg man attempted to smuggle more than 120 pounds of marijuana across the Hidalgo checkpoint, according to a criminal complaint.
On Feb. 21, Hidalgo County’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force agents stopped 21-year-old Frank Silva from entering the U.S. from Mexico at the Hidalgo checkpoint.
After an investigation, HIDTA agents located and seized more than 100 bundles of marijuana.
The bundles were hidden inside the fuel tank and rear tires of the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
Silva later admitted to agents that he was smuggling the narcotics for monetary gain.
Silva was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony.
A judge set Silva’s bond at $25,000.
Silva remained at the county jail Friday afternoon and couldn’t be reached for comment.
