Edinburg double homicide ruled a murder-suicide

EDINBURG, Texas — An investigation by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office revealed that a murder-suicide took place on Thursday in rural Edinburg.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the 5400 block of Mountain View Drive in Edinburg and found two bodies with gunshot wounds inside a home.

Lindolfo Meza Sanchez, 73, and Bertha Bermudez, 41, were found dead with a handgun near Sanchez’s body.

An initial scan by investigators showed no signs of family violence or burglary.

Investigators later learned that the two individuals were in a relationship for about four years and had lived together for 11 months.

An autopsy revealed both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds to the head.

Bermudez’s death was ruled a homicide while Sanchez’s was ruled a suicide.
