EDINBURG, Texas — The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) celebrated its school nutrition employees.
“We thank the staff from our Child Nutrition Department for preparing healthy meals, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies and offering service with a smile,” said ECISD School Board President Oscar Salinas in the release. “We truly recognize their professionalism and commitment to making sure no child goes hungry in our school community.”
School Lunch Hero day was celebrated May 1.
According to a press release, the day honors employees by allowing parents, students, staff and the community to give thanks.
“Edinburg CISD congratulates our Child Nutrition Department staff for their hard work and dedication for providing thousands of health meals to our children,” said ECISD Interim Superintendent Gilbert Garza Jr in the release. “From their friendly greetings in the cafeteria and the love they dish out with every student’s meal, to how they encourage kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, our school nutrition professionals are truly heroes.”
The release adds the district has provided approximately 800,000 healthy meals through the curbside program amid the pandemic.
The district reminds the public that the curbside meal program runs Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information contact the nutrition department at (956) 289-2300.
