A man and a woman are facing charges after stealing flat screen TV’s from Walmart and then evading police in Edinburg.

According to Edinburg police, 35 year-old Edgar Villanueva was seen leaving the Walmart, at 1724 West University Drive, in a blue Kia Rio without paying for the merchandise.

Police say the driver of the Kia Rio was identified as 43 year-old Trisha Val Verde.

An Edinburg Police Officer found the Kia Rio at the First Cash Pawn shop at 3501 West  University Drive.

The officer saw Villanueva pawning the TV’s and  proceeded to arrest him.

Val Verde was over 90 mph going North on Mon Mack Rd. The officers made several attempts to pull the vehicle over, using overhead lights and sirens however, Val Verde continued to flee at high rates of speed, according to police.

Val Verde lost control of the vehicle going West on Trenton Rd.  Not realizing the vehicle was immobile, Val Verde continued to try and turn the keys in the ignition to start the car in an attempt to leave again.

Texas Highway Patrol, Officers were able to pull Val Verde out of the vehicle and arrest her.

During a vehicle search of the vehicle, more merchandise known to be stolen from Walmart was recovered, along with three flat screen TV’s.

Val Verde was also found to be in the possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

No injuries were reported by police during the pursuit.

Almost all of the merchandise stolen was recovered and returned.
