New details were released from Texas State Troopers regarding a fatal crash outside of Falfurrias earlier this week on State Highway 285.
The narrow highway has several road construction sites along the way, with traffic being stopped by road construction workers.
Traffic that normally travels at 75 miles an hour, comes to an abrupt halt.
State Highway 285 connects U.S. Highway 281 with U.S. Highway 77. It makes for an easier way for people like Maribel Alegría to get to Kingsville or Corpus Christi.
“But it’s just so ugly,” Alegría said. “The highway’s has been under construction for over a year already.”
State Highway 285 has become a nightmare, especially when she’s cornered into tight lanes and head-on traffic coming dangerously close.
“Driving with a horse trailer with horses on the back loaded, it’s hard to drive through that little area that’s so small,” Alegría said.
On Tuesday afternoon, state police say six vehicles were involved in an accident in which one truck driver died.
Texas DPS confirms 43 year-old Fernando Davilos from Los Fresnos died after not being able to maintain his speed.
In a video sent in to CBS 4, several big-rigs can be seen involved in the crash. The carriage of one truck can be seen pushed inward.
“This is why it’s important that we be visible and make sure we’re complying with the construction zones,” said Johnny Hernández from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
For Maribel Alegría, she’s already seen the signs of grief that accidents on this highway have caused.
“You can see crosses on the side of the road where they’ve had accidents and family members have put on their little crosses,” Alegría said.
CBS 4 contacted TxDot’s offices both in Pharr and Corpus Christi, but we haven’t received a response on when the construction will be over.
