One driver is facing charges of evading arrest with a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana after crashing into a palm tree in Penitas.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, they attempted to stop a red Toyota Yaris traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 83, west of Inspiration Road for a traffic violation. Troopers said 21-year-old Rogelio Castillo, Jr. of Alamo failed to yield and crashed on U.S. Highway 83 in Penitas into a palm tree.

Authorities said Castillo was taken to the hospital and taken to the Hidalgo County jail.

Jail records show Castillo’s bond was set at $6,000.
