A drive through facility is now operational in Brownsville to conduct tests on COVID-19.
The express testing center first became operational this morning at the Brownsville sports park and has already tested 10 patients in the first few hours.
City officials tell Local 23 News that they hope to bring in more test to the region independent from county efforts.
Costs for the screenings are handled through insurance providers, however, the mayor says the city allocated a fund for the uninsured.
“The intent of the commission is to allocate funding for those that may be uninsured and are getting a different price from the provider. For those that be uninsured. The intent is not to stick people with bills at the end of this. However, the priority should be for the residents of the city of Brownsville in keeping the residents of the city of Brownsville safe.”
The coronavirus drive through is currently available by doctors’ orders only.
City officials ask that you do not show up unannounced.
