The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 355 pounds of marijuana on Thursday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a passenger car in La Joya.

At approximately 12 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on U.S. 83 west of Coyote Drive. The driver evaded law enforcement and was subsequently arrested on U.S. 83 and FM 1427 in Penitas.  The trooper subsequently discovered 30 bundles of marijuana, worth an estimated $2 million, during the search of the vehicle. The driver, Gerardo Tejeda Jimenez, 40, of Jalisco Mexico, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.  Jimenez was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
