Troopers arrested a 19-year-old man Thursday afternoon who allegedly failed to stop and render aid in a fatal crash that occurred between Mile 11 and Mile 12 near Weslaco.
Preliminary investigation showed that a Mercury Mountaineer SUV traveling northbound on Farm-to-Market 1015 veered off the roadway and hit a 46-year-old man and a 7-year-old girl just after 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Troopers say the two pedestrians were walking far away from the roadway when the vehicle hit them for unknown reasons.
Pedestrian Rogelio Caballero Alonso of Weslaco died at the scene. The 7-year-old girl was transported to the hospital with injuries.
