Donna Man Stands Trial in Capital Murder Case

A Donna man faced a jury Wednesday, as the group listened to expert testimony on a fatal shooting that left two men dead and another injured.

25-year-old Victor Javier Briseño was charged with capital murder in connection to the death of 23-year-old Victor Reyes.

The shooting happened on the 9800 block of Maiz Street near Val Verde Road on April 14, 2015.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

According to forensic pathologist, Dr. Norma Jean Farley, Reyes died from multiple gun shot wounds to the head. An autopsy shows several skull fractures and cerebral damage.

He was also shot on his right thigh.

During Wednesday’s testimony, the lead investigator in the case testified that the defendant wanted to buy synthetic marijuana from the victim.

Briseño is also accused of attempting to rob the victim before he shot him.

Two other men, 38-year-old Ramon Vasquez and 18-year-old Luis Estrada were also involved in the shooting.

Vasquez later died at a local hospital from multiple gunshots wounds.

Estrada was also injured, but survived.

If convicted, Briseño faces up to 99 years in prison.
