From Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office:

A juvenile has been arrested for the stabbing death of 69 year old Arturo Hermes Hernandez, and the stabbing of another.

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, at approximately 3:44 a.m., Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call at a business named Pollos Asados Veracruz located at the northeast corner of Valverde Road and Alberta Road in rural Donna, Hidalgo County, Texas, in reference to an aggravated assault that was called in by witnesses.

Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies found a deceased male subject inside the building, identified as 69 year old Arturo Hermes Hernandez, the caretaker of the business, with several apparent stab wounds to his body. Deputies checked another residence on the same property, and located another victim, a 21 year old male, who had also been stabbed several times.

While deputies were administering first aid, the second victim identified the assailant as a juvenile whom he recognized and resides in the neighborhood. The victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment where he remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The Major Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene to process the scene, gather evidence, and obtain witness statements. Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Guadalupe Drive located down the street from the crime scene, and took custody of a 16 year old male juvenile who confessed to stabbing both victims. Investigators recovered the murder weapon and other articles of evidence to the crime.

Through the course of the investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators learned that the juvenile suspect broke into the building through a window with the intent to rob the business. The juvenile stabbed Hernandez several times with a large knife that he grabbed from inside the building. As he was fleeing the property with the stolen currency, he stabbed the second victim multiple times with the knife, and was cut during the struggle.

Yesterday evening, the 16 year old suspect was transported and turned over to the Mario Ramirez Juvenile Justice Center where he was charged and detained for the offenses of Capital Murder, a capital felony, and Criminal Attempt Capital Murder, a 1st degree felony.
