Donna Independent School District has released the result of the investigation into an unusual smell that caused a middle school to close early on Monday.
According to the district, Donna ISD Police determined the smell was caused by a student that sprayed pepper spray in the hallway, affecting students in the area.
A statement from the district adds the student is facing disciplinary action and possible criminal charges.
Students were dismissed early on Monday as a precaution and for student safety.
Donna ISD resumed classes Tuesday after the fire department cleared the building and informed it was safe for students and staff.
