DONNA, Texas – District Superintendent Dr. Hafedh Azaiez announced a creation of a task force to look at scenarios around restarting school for the 2020-2021 year. The newly created all inclusive task force will consist of DISD students, parents, personnel, board members and representatives from the county, city, higher education and media.
The district’s press release said the task force will be responsible for researching and strategizing a safe and successful school year. Members will be assigned to five critical subcommittees such as Instruction, Safety and Security, District Operations, School Operations and Technology.
The Task Force will look into several different scenarios:
- If schools reopen and go back to normal operations.
- If schools implement a modified schedule, where some students attend classes on campus while others learn from home.
- If schools remain closed.
- If schools adopt a variety of scenarios.
The release said the task force will research these avenues and create a blueprint that would serve as a guide for Donna ISD, and potentially other local school districts, in their efforts to continue educating students in these challenging times.
“We need to be prepared for every situation that might come our way,” said Dr. Azaiez. “We would be proud if our return-to-school road map can serve as a model for other surrounding school districts. As superintendents in the Valley, we work closely together and know that it’s important to help each other when possible because we are in this together. We don’t know what will happen in the months ahead, however with the right combination of thinkers we can construct a plan for every scenario.”Dr. Hafedh Azaiez, Donna ISD Superintendent
Task Force meetings will be conducted through Zoom in the upcoming weeks. The first meeting will take place Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m.
