Investigators found two women dead Wednesday near Rio Grande City.

Deputies with the Starr County Sheriff’s Office found two Rio Grande City school district employees dead on Wednesday morning, said 229th Judicial District Attorney Omar Escobar.

Both women had been bound and shot in the head, Escobar said. Investigators believe they were killed between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday at a home near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 755 and Ebony Court.

The Sheriff’s Office turned the investigation over to the Texas Rangers.

The Rio Grande City school district posted a statement on Facebook, expressing condolences to the families of Oneida Balderas Garza and Lourdes M. Luna.

“They will forever be missed,” according to the statement. “We ask for prayers during this difficult time.”

Officials have not confirmed the names of the women who were found dead.

The school district canceled Wednesday night’s school board meeting and postponed all extracurricular activities until further notice.
