District attorney encourages additional witnesses in mayoral fraud case to come forward

Local News

EDINBURG, Texas – The Hidalgo County District Attorney’s office says it is encouraging additional witnesses who engaged in fraudulent voting, during Mayor Richard Molina’s campaign, to come forward and cooperate with authorities.

This all comes after the Edinburg mayor and his wife were arrested after turning themselves into authorities yesterday morning. This follows an investigation by the Texas Attorney General’s Election Fraud Unit that determined Molina and his wife allegedly engaged in voter fraud.

District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez says his office is prepared to present charges against Mayor Molina and his co-conspirators to a grand jury.

Cary Zayas, Director of Communications and Media, “He maintains his innocence and as far as the city goes this has nothing to do without day to day operations. We continue with day to day operations as normal.”

District Attorney Rodriguez adds he hopes the grand jury can provide a thorough evaluation of the evidence to ensure justice is served.
