Disgraced Ex-Sheriff, Guilty of Taking Money From Drug Dealer, Moved To Half-Way House

Local News

Former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino is back in Texas. Federal Bureau of Prison records confirm the disgraced lawman is in a Residential Reentry Management field office in Bexar County. “We can’t give you his exact address, sir.” said a representative with RRM’s San Antonio office when News Center 23 called to learn of the conditions of his release. “Good behavior” is all what was said about why Trevino was moved from a Florida federal prision. In April 2014, then Hidalgo County Sheriff Trevino pled guilty to federal money laundering charges. In 2012, Trevino was accused of taking cash for his campaign from Tomas “El Gallo” Gonzalez, a known drug trafficker from Weslaco.

News Center 23’s Kevin Lui reported on Trevino’s court records. In Lui’s report, Trevino “admitted to taking $25,000 dollars from “El Gallo” Gonzalez”, but Trevino’s campaign finance reports listed $10,000.

According to federal court records, Trevino’s release date is January 15, 2019.
