Digital Fishing and Hunting Licenses Could Soon Be Available

Local News

A bill filed by Texas Representative Terry Canales is gaining attention ahead of the legislative session.

Canales is filing HB 547 which will allow Texans with fishing or hunting licenses to show them digitally on a smart phone to a Texas Game Warden. It could be done similarly to the way a digital insurance card is accepted by law enforcement. Canales says he is also working on moving towards modern technology when it comes to drivers licenses.

“Basically, at this point, getting the State of Texas to allow us to create a pilot program wherein DPS creates a pilot license within DPS to see how they get it functioning, then at that point it’s released to the public.” Says Canales.

The bill is not seeking to do away with paper licenses, but would give license holders a more advanced digital option.
