Detention center guard accused of sexually abusing jailed immigrant

Local News

A detention center guard is spending the weekend in jail after being accused of sexually abusing an illegal immigrant in his custody.

U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 63-year-old Lorenzo Vasquez on Wednesday.

Court records released on Friday show Vasquez is accused of sexually abusing an immigrant at the immigration detention center in Bayview.

According to a criminal complaint, Vasquez isolated a detainee and used his finger to sexually abuse the immigrant.

Vasquez is also accused of forcing the immigrant’s hand on his penis.

Investigators are not releasing more details but confirmed that Vasquez is a guard hired by a private company that holds a contract at the ICE-run facility.

Charged with sexual abuse of a ward, Vasquez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio in Brownsville on Thursday morning.

Records show that Vasquez lives off Rocky Avenue in Raymondville and had a previous conviction for DWI in 1986.

Judge Recio denied bond for Vasquez until a Monday morning hearing.
