Democratic Leaders Looking for Alternatives to Border Wall

Local News

Democratic leaders are trying to find more effective ways to secure our borders without having to build a physical wall.

U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez says a virtual wall is more cost effective and efficient. He says

he and a group of colleagues are working on a letter to meet with President Donald Trump to discuss better alternatives.

Congressman Gonzalez says, “Why don’t we engage Mexico and try to help them secure their southern border, which seems to be more of an issue these days. Right now, we have Mexican nationals going home at a higher rate than they are coming in to the United States. Why do we not engage the country of Mexico where I think we can help them protect their border for a fraction of what we’re spending on ours.”

Representative Gonzalez is joining a number of other democratic leaders in Washington, D.C. planning to ask the president to change the focus of border protection, including the wall.
