HARLINGEN, Texas (KVEO) — If you plan on registering to vote or plan on making changes to your voter registration, including requesting a mail-in ballot, the deadline is quickly approaching.
Several key elections races, both local and state, are headed for July runoff elections.
According to Texas law, you must register or make changes to your voter registration 30 days before election day, which is July 14. You can download your applications online via your county’s website or the Texas Secretary of State website. Deadline for mail-in ballots are July 2.
Once you fill out your application you must submit the original signed document to your elections office.
“That original application must reach our doors no later than four days after it is either mailed or postmarked. It can also be faxed but the original must make it to our doors,” said Yvonne Ramon, Hidalgo County Elections Administrator.
Ramon says with it being this late in the game, it is advised to physically bring the document into the elections office.
Early voting will run from June 29 through July 10, with election day July 14. If you would like to check your registration status or to download an application, click here.
The deadline to register to vote or to make changes is Monday, June 15.
