Cyber Security Seminar in Brownsville

Local News

Cyber attacks are becoming more and more popular. As we continue to plug in to several websites on a daily basis, identity theft is costing us big dollars. That’s why the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Regional Bank hosted a cyber security seminar this morning. Free to the public. The goal is to make you aware of the increase in malware in any device that’s home to your valuable information like banking sites, Facebook, e-mail and even your WIFI controlled AC and security systems.

Ronda Johnson, Executive VP of Texas Regional Bank says, “To prevent it from happening is to be aware to protect yourself by using firewalls, protecting your identity and making sure you’re not going to websites that you shouldn’t go to. If you don’t go looking for that information that somebody’s trying to get you to click on something, don’t click on it. That’s where you become a victim of malware and cyber losses.”

If you do find yourself a victim of a cyber attack, Ronda Johnson suggests you immediately call the tech department as well as your credit bureaus to file identify theft. Of course you must also immediately change all your passwords for every piece of software you have been accessing.
