Court Order To Improve Child Immigrant Detention Centers

Local News

Child immigrant detention centers, including the ones in the Rio Grande Valley, are being court-ordered to improve.

A Los Angeles Federal Judge is looking to appoint an independent monitor to investigate the reports of abuse and neglect at child facilities along the border.

The judge says the stories of more than 200 children and their parents in detention in the RGV coupled with the disconnect between government monitors, are reason for oversight.

The alleged issues range from being served rotten food, dirty water, and sleep deprivation.

Both the government and immigration attorney have until August 10th to agree on a monitor. If not, the judge will choose one.
