County jail inmates wrapping Christmas gifts, giving back to the community

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department is wrapping up toys and getting them ready before they are distributed to kids in rural communities. Inmates participating in the gift wrapping say this is a way for them to feel closer to their families. All while giving back to the kids who don’t have a toy to open on Christmas Day.

Judith Barron, inmate, “We’re putting a little bit of each of us on it.”

Sheriff Omar Lucio, “A lot of people are in need and some of them don’t have anything for Christmas.”

Thousands of toys were donated by the community and the sheriff’s department. The toys will be distributed next week to less fortunate children along with food for their families to enjoy during the holidays.
