County Commission Ends Negotiations with Engineering Firm

Local News

Hidalgo County Commissioners are ceasing negotiations with a reputable engineering firm for a new courthouse.

This comes after FBI agents raided the Dannenbaum Engineering office last week in McAllen. County commissioners unanimously voted to cut ties with the engineering corporation during commissioners court.

Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia says the new courthouse project is the largest in the history of the county. It’s important to proceed with caution.

“That remains to be seen, whether there is a legal basis, but there is no contract. We didn’t get to that point. We were in the process of getting there. We were involved what I thought were sincere good faith negotiations before this happened. But, once this happened, we had to stop.”

Dannenbaum officials declined to comment on camera after the decision. The county says the project will move forward with the runner up company, Jacobs Engineering Group.
