“Construction is going to be big in Harlingen…” that is what the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation is telling us about future of the Mid Valley City.
The organization tells us construction increased from 22 percent from 20-16 to 2017 and is expected to grow with new business looking to move into the city.
Some of the major projects expected this year include a new convention center, a 920-thousand-square-foot distribution center, and 3 new hotels.
CEO “I think the growth in sales tax revenues has caught us a little bit by surprise, a pleasant surprise. We expected a 2 and a half to 3 percent growth and 6 percent is phenomenal. That’s continued so this year and we expected to continue at that pace for about 5 or six percent for the rest of the year,” says Raudel Garza, CEO of the Harlingen EDC.
