Congressman Vicente Gonzalez Visits Valley Schools

Local News

District 15 Congressman, Vicente Gonzalez visited four Rio Grande Valley schools, Monday.

Among them were four McAllen Independent School District campuses.

“I’m reaching out to children, talking to them about the importance of education, of community service, of what we do in Washington that impacts every day education in my district in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Gonzalez.

For congressman, Gonzalez… education has always been high on his priority list of duties.

And what better way to learn more about the children than a little Q&A.

“I think it’s important to start telling them now, that when they graduate from high school, more is expected of them. And, that they should learn a trade, they should go to a community college or university. And, if they don’t have the funds as in my case when I was at that age, that there are funds available,” he added.

One of the schools he visited was Blanca E. Sanchez Elementary, known for its efforts to promote health and wellness.

“He came to reward this school because there’s only two gold schools in the alliance for a healthier generation in the state of Texas. So he came to recognize them and keep up the good work, make sure you properly, good nutrition. Make sure you drink a lot of water,” said Mario Reyna, district coordinator for physical education and health.

At the end of his visit, the Congressman awarded Sanchez elementary with a flag he flew over the U.S. Capitol.
