Congressman Rubén Hinojosa hosted a reception in honor of the 2016 Congressional nominees who have accepted an appointment to our nation’s prestigious U.S. Military Service Academies. Congressman Hinojosa honored each of the 12 appointees with Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition and flags that have been flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
“Every year for the past 20 years, I have recommended exemplary young leaders for admission to one of the five U.S. military academies: the Naval Academy, the Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy. I am deeply honored for the opportunity to recognize outstanding students in my district for this distinction.
“These educational institutions are among the most selective and best in the nation. Students who matriculate and graduate from these academies receive an exceptional education.
“The U.S. military academies have a particular focus on STEM careers (science, math, technology and engineering) and provide rigorous military and leadership training. Distinguished graduates from these academies go on to become high ranking officers of their respective military branches and are highly sought after by industry and corporate America after they complete their military service.
“It is a distinct honor and privilege to celebrate and congratulate the 15th Congressional District of Texas’ 2016 Service Academy Nominees. This year, I nominated 20 promising students from my Congressional district, and I am proud that 12 outstanding nominees accepted their appointments. These extraordinary young men and women will be leaving the great state of Texas to pursue a rigorous education combined with military training at one of the United States’ prestigious military service academies.
“These bright young men and women are the future of our country, and I know that they will make South Texas very proud.”
