MCALLEN, Texas – The office of Congressman Vicente Gonzalez sent a press release that praised farmers, ranchers, farmworkers, packers, shippers, and all those across our food supply chain for their efforts to keep our nation fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This group of people are considered essential in the country’s workforce, said the release. If they want to work and are healthy to do so.

They can work and are allowed to travel to work during this difficult time for our country, even with some areas of the United States calling for a shelter-in-place order.

While Hidalgo, Cameron and other counties in South Texas have instituted shelter-in-place orders, agriculture and farmworkers are considered essential workers.

The release ends by saying, if agriculture workers still want to work, they are permitted to travel and work because of their essential work status.
