Local News

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez is announcing a $1.2 million grant that aims to strengthen special education resources in the Valley.

The grant is being awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to the Project Please Program. The program is a collaborative effort with nine regional school districts. The grant will provide personnel training scholarships to 14 vetted candidates to complete their Doctorate in Special Education Administration.

“This is huge for the special needs community in our region. I’m looking forward to it, this is something that I have been fighting hard for since I arrived to congress. I intend to do that and have a voice for the most underrepresented.” said Congressman Gonzalez.

The first awardees of the scholarships are expected to be announced in February of 2020 with the program set to begin the first summer semester of 2020.
