Congressman Cuellar speaks on Central American Immigrant Surge

Local News

Congressman Henry Cuellar is speaking out about the surge of Central American migrants coming to our border. The surge has driven Health and Human services to take $167 million in federal funds from other programs to assist in dealing with the increase.

But the border politician says in doing so, we’re only putting a band-aid on the wound. He added that working with Central American partners to end violence in their respective countries would reduce the number of families seeking asylum.

Representative Cuellar believes doing a better job of securing the border and hiring more immigration judges would help root out the cause of the current migrant surge.
