Congressman Cuellar announces $3.7 million to help families and seniors pay energy bills during pandemic

MISSION, Texas – Congressman Henry Cuellar announced $3,785,488 in federal funding to County of Hidalgo Community Services Agency through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

The press release from the congressman’s office said the LIHEAP funds, awarded through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will be used to help low-income households and seniors in Hidalgo County pay energy bills during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The congressman helped secure $900 million for LIHEAP in the CARES Act. This LIHEAP funding can be used for home heating, cooling, crisis, weatherization activities, and related support services.

This supplemental funding to provide assistance to help prevent, prepare for, or respond to home energy needs related to the coronavirus, said the press release.
