Tension was high this morning in Cameron County after a confrontation involving a veteran unfolded late last night. Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says that his team, a swat unit, and expert negotiators were deployed to Quail Drive in San Benito under the impression a veteran had discharged several fire arm rounds.
After an overnight operation, authorities were able to get a hold of the veteran peacefully and no one was injured. This is what Sheriff Lucio had to say about the operation.
“We had some negotiators out there, which is the first thing we do when we assess the situation. We cleared the perimeter as much as possible. It is hard to tell people to go out of their house at midnight, the children… it makes it hard so what he did at the time is try to protect the neighborhood as much as possible.”
Although firearms were found in the man’s home, they did not find evidence of a single round fired.
The man was sent to psychological treatment and Veteran’s Affairs for further diagnosis.
No arrests were made.
