Community Gathers to Set Up Garden

Local News

Community members from ‘Los Vecinos’ neighborhood in Harlingen makes a community garden.

The Harlingen Housing Authority, various partners, and community members themselves install garden beds.

Families from this area will plant fruits and vegetables there.

Members from Texas A&M Agrilife extension will hold classes to teach participants how to grow their crops.

Hilda Benavides – Executive Director for the Harlingen Housing Authority says, “we do have the families that become involved, we are placing 12 beds for families to come together to start growing fruits and vegetables, mainly vegetables… we will pretty much get this going as soon as we finish the garden itself.”

The site also holds 2 raised beds to assist individuals with disabilities.
