Combes police arrest man for assaulting officer, evading arrest

COMBES, Texas — The Combes Police Department has a man in custody after he drove off from a traffic stop and later assaulted a police officer.

According to a release, Combes police pulled over a vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday for having an obscured license plate.

Police identified Emanual Munoz, 33, as the driver and suspected he was driving intoxicated.

Munoz refused police orders to exit his vehicle and the two began a struggle as the police officer attempted to remove Munoz from the car.

During the struggle, Munoz turned on his vehicle and drove off, nearly striking the police officer, said the release.

The officer chased Munoz to his home and was able to stop Munoz before he entered the home.

Munoz continued to resist arrest and became violent.

According to police, Munoz is charged with driving while intoxicated, assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, and evading arrest with a vehicle.

Munoz is jailed at the Cameron County Jail and is awaiting arraingment.
